The Land Rover Discovery Sport Plug-in Hybrid is a guaranteed model with Hertz Iceland — when you book this category, you receive this exact vehicle. A compact luxury AWD SUV with Terrain Response technology, 45km real-world EV range, and DC fast-charging capability. Not permitted on F-roads or Highland tracks. Minimum age 25. Two credit cards required at pickup. Charging cable not included — add at booking via hertz.is.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport Plug-in Hybrid combines Land Rover’s Terrain Response AWD engineering with plug-in hybrid efficiency in a compact, premium package. Part of the Hertz Iceland Luxury Fleet, it suits travellers who want genuine Land Rover capability on Iceland’s paved roads and standard gravel routes, alongside EV efficiency for city driving and shorter scenic legs.
This is not the vehicle for Highland F-roads — for that, the Land Rover Defender PHEV is the only PHEV option in our fleet with F-road clearance. The Discovery Sport is the right choice when you want Land Rover’s engineering heritage, a guaranteed specific model, and premium comfort on Iceland’s main road network.
⚠️ Important: The charging cable is not included as standard. Add it during booking at hertz.is. Without the cable, the Discovery Sport PHEV operates as a fully capable petrol AWD.

Yes — for paved roads, gravel, and main routes, it’s one of the most capable and refined vehicles in its class.
⚠️ Not ideal if:
Step inside the Discovery Sport and you’re immediately in a cabin that balances genuine premium quality with practical usability. The dashboard layout is clean and intuitive — the Pivi Pro infotainment system handles navigation, Terrain Response settings, and charging status from a single 11.4-inch touchscreen, with physical shortcuts kept for the functions you use most.
Heated front seats warm up quickly — essential for Iceland’s cold starts — and the heated windscreen clears frost and condensation within minutes rather than waiting for the engine to warm the glass. Both features sound like small comforts but become meaningful quality-of-life differences on a week-long Iceland itinerary in shoulder season.
The cabin sits five adults with genuine rear legroom for a compact SUV, and the seating position gives you a commanding view of Iceland’s landscapes — useful for reading gravel road conditions ahead and spotting the weather systems moving across the horizon that Iceland is famous for. Wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard, keeping navigation and connectivity simple throughout the trip.
The boot is practical for couples and small families travelling with sensible luggage. Two large hard-shell suitcases and two smaller bags fit without compromise. If you’re two people and can pack in soft bags, the rear seats fold to give you a genuinely expansive load area.

The Discovery Sport boot fits 2–3 large hard-shell suitcases plus 2 smaller soft bags with all seats in use. Note that the PHEV battery placement reduces total boot volume slightly compared to the petrol/diesel Discovery Sport. For two people travelling with soft bags, folding the rear seats creates a significantly expanded, flat load floor.

Yes. When you book this category with Hertz Iceland, you are guaranteed to receive a Land Rover Discovery Sport PHEV — not a substitute or comparable vehicle. This is one of a small number of guaranteed-model categories in our fleet.
No. Despite being a Land Rover, the Discovery Sport is strictly forbidden on F-roads and Highland tracks such as the routes to Landmannalaugar or Þórsmörk. It is permitted on Road 35 (Kjölur) and Road 550 (Kaldidalur) only when conditions are clear and officially open. For F-road eligible vehicles in our fleet, check safe.hertz.is/f-road-guide.
Yes. The Discovery Sport AWD with Terrain Response and our season-appropriate winter tyres provides confident traction on Iceland’s main roads in snow and ice. The heated windscreen is particularly useful in freezing conditions — it clears frost significantly faster than a standard heated screen. For winter driving guidance, visit safe.hertz.is.

For couples travelling with soft bags, folding the rear seats creates a significantly expanded flat load area. Note that the PHEV battery placement slightly reduces boot volume compared to the petrol/diesel Discovery Sport.
No. The charging cable must be added separately during booking at hertz.is. Without it, the Discovery Sport PHEV operates as a fully capable petrol AWD. With the cable added, DC fast-charging reaches 80% in approximately 30 minutes, and AC home/hotel charging takes approximately 2 hours 12 minutes for a full charge.
Both are guaranteed-model AWD PHEVs limited to paved and gravel roads — neither is permitted on F-roads. The Discovery Sport offers Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 technology, a heated windscreen, DC fast-charging (~30 min), and Land Rover heritage — better for those who want Land Rover specifically and benefit from faster charging stops. The BMW X3 PHEV offers a longer EV range (81–90 km vs ~45 km), more power (295 PS vs 249 PS), and requires only one credit card at pickup. Choose Discovery Sport for Land Rover engineering and faster charging; choose X3 for longer EV range and lower deposit requirement.
Yes. Roadside Assistance can be added at the rental desk at pickup — not bookable online in advance. It costs 1,990 ISK/day standalone, or 990 ISK/day when added with MAX Coverage. If you need assistance during your rental, pay the service fee at the time, then bring your receipt when you return the car — we’ll refund the covered amount to your card on file. Emergency line: +354 858 0499 (24/7).
Hertz Iceland operates safe.hertz.is — a dedicated driving safety hub covering F-road guidance, winter driving, road conditions, and emergency contacts. Available to all travellers in Iceland, not just Hertz customers.
To rent the Land Rover Discovery Sport PHEV, the main driver must generally:
For the full list, see our rental requirements.
The rental has five seats, and Hertz lists room for approximately four large suitcases. Four adults should fit comfortably with sensibly sized luggage, but soft bags are easier to pack than four large rigid cases.

No. The Discovery Sport PHEV is not allowed on F-roads or Highland tracks. Hertz Iceland specifically permits it on Roads 35 and 550 when those roads are officially open and conditions are suitable. You can drive it on paved roads and ordinary maintained gravel roads. Driving off marked roads, closed roads and unapproved Highland routes remain prohibited.
Possibly. Contact our customer service (hertz@hertz.is) before your original return time. An extension needs our approval and depends on vehicle availability. The extra days may be charged at the current rate rather than your original daily rate. Please don’t simply keep the vehicle past the agreed return time. Without prior notice and confirmation, an additional rental day can be charged if the vehicle is returned at least one hour late without an approved extension.
